UCSD Peds Flu Vaccine Clinics Open Extra Hours

UCSD Peds has influenza vaccine available for all infants (over 6 months old), children and adolescents both injectable and intranasal. We have influenza vaccine clinics in the evenings and Saturday mornings starting in October through early December.

Parents can call the office to set up a nurse visit for a flu shot. If your child has a well visit scheduled, the flu shot can be given then.

Discovering Gifted Children in Pediatric Practice

Liu, Yi Hui MD, MPH; Lien, Jamie MD; Kafka, Tina; Stein, Martin T. MD

Perhaps your child is gifted. Read this article published in April, 2010, in the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. In a study led by our very own Dr. Liu and Dr. Stein, they have found that school psychologists may be recommending ADHD medication unnecessarily; they have found in their pediatric practice, that in fact, these children are gifted.

Oct 22,2009 – Dr. Janet Crow comments on Swine Flu in Schools

Schools “end up being a wonderful place where things can be spread very easily,” said Dr. Janet Crow, a pediatrician and associate clinical professor at the UCSD School of Medicine.

Influenza is transmitted through droplets of moisture released by an infected person. Those droplets can move from person to person through a sneeze or cough, or they can be left on surfaces such as a table or door handle. The virus can survive outside the body for several hours.

“Any time you have children moving around and interactive with their environment, then you have contact with surfaces,” Crow said.

San Diego Union Tribune, features Janet Crow, MD “Swine flu may be at all county schools”

Dr. Janet Crow is an Associate Clinical Professor and pediatrician in the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. She conducts weekly clinics at the 7910 Frost Street Location, serving young San Diegans from toddlers to 19+ years of age.
