Ranked #28 in the country, the UC San Diego Pediatrics Endocrinology Division at Rady Children’s Hospital, is programmed to expand its diabetes care in conjunction with PDRC.
This year, over 1,000 children with diabetes from a tri-county area are cared for by Rady Children’s Diabetes Clinic. Currently 80 percent of these children have Type 1 diabetes – a number that continues to rise substantially each year.
Clinical care for patients with Type I diabetes often starts in early childhood. It spans all age groups and continues into adulthood. Consequentially, a comprehensive and integrated program that revolves around, not only the child, but the entire family is required to effectively treat these young patients.
At the Rady Children’s Hospital, the Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Center provide consultation and accepts referrals of young patients with diabetes. In addition, they also evaluate and treat children with diabetes mellitus and hypoglycemia.
The following services are offered:
Bringing together the clinical-care team with basic and clinical researchers will strengthen ties between patients, physicians and research scientists. It will facilitate improved clinical trials for diabetes – enabling us to bring discoveries to patients more quickly. As importantly, a new PDRC facility will also offer an important psychological and emotional lift for patients.
This is a center where children receive the most advanced treatment for diabetes, and where researchers are devoted to discovering a cure for this disease.
